January 22nd, 2010 - Basic Fly Casting
This is a basic bare bones fly casting class structured for the beginning fly fisher. The focus is on the basic cast with a presentation on fly rods, reels and fly lines. Differences will be addressed regarding when and where to fish weight forward or double taper fly lines, along with differences in standard and large arbor fly reels as well as their drag systems. The comparisons of various fly rods with regard to their lengths, weights, number of sections and flexibility will also be covered.

There will be actual participation with personal attention and instruction to the casting by our instructor Stann Grater, Chief Orvis Fly Casting Instructor International. Please keep hands and legs inside the arena at all times.

February 6th, 2010 - Two Handed Fly Rod Spey Casting
A hands on casting clinic designed to help those beginning with the two handed fly rod cast and related techniques. We also offer a more advanced clinic on styles based on individual ability. Emphasis is on both the  compact Scandinavian and Skagit styles of line casting. Shooting heads,line control, anchoring, snap T and presentation are all part of the professional instruction. We provide the equipment for the beginning caster to help determine which rod and line weights and their associated heads are best suited for their own style of casting and rod. Classes are held at selected areas of the Spokane river to maximize a real time fishing scenario. Cost is $50.00 per hour.

February 8th, 2010 - Beginning Fly Tying
This is a basic "bare bones" fly tying class structured for the beginning fly tier. The focus is on trout fly patterns proven to be effective in fly fishing for all species of trout in the Pacific Northwest. Patterns will include dry flies, wet flies and streamers. There will be some helpful discussion on application and use of fly patterns as applied to trout fishing.
Meet on Mondays and Wednesdays 7:00pm to 9:00pm for three weeks.

Materials are provided. Need to bring your own fly tying tools.

SPOTLIGHT
Starting the first Saturday in January and continuing every other month, Swede's will offer a fly fishing, tying and casting for kids between the ages of 10 and 15. This is a program designed to help and further the sport of fly fishing to those children who otherwise would not have the opportunity.
All casting lessons, fly tying tools and materials are free of charge for these children.
Maximum of 8 children per month, FCFS.
